Invest in technology, see the benefits
We consolidated multiple websites and added online membership renewal.
The American Institute of the History of Pharmacy ("AIHP") was founded in in 1941 at the University of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy. It creates, preserves and disseminates knowledge about the history of the pharmaceutical field. And until 2017, its website was a static source of information. Even though the Institute offers several opportunities (e.g., grants and awards), resources, and publications, all business was conducted offline.
Its web presense was a single page on the University of Wisconsin's School of Pharmacy website, and a few pages on a separate domain. We worked with the Institute's staff to create a single website (www.AIHP.org) that would allow people to make donations and become a member online with a credit card. And most importantly, consolidate all the information and brand on a single destination.
We selected WordPress as the development platform because the staff had an existing comfort level with its administration panel. We selected a credit card processing vendor that specializes in subscriptions. In the end, the Institute decided not to move its membership database online, so we designed a process that supports online renewals and new memberships, and works with their offline database.
